Career Coaching Defined

“If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.”

In Alice in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat understood what it felt like to have no direction. The opposite can be even truer: “If you know where you are going, you can overcome any obstacle to get there.”

The average estimated cost of public college education today is $80,000 and rising. Over 55% of college students are taking 7 years to complete a Bachelor’s degree. And many college students graduate without a clear vision of their future vocation.

Individuals find themselves asking:

  • “What do I want to be?”
  • “What’s my college major?”
  • “How is my college major going to translate into a vocation?”
  • “What’s the best career match for me and my abilities?”
  • “I’m searching for a new career direction."
  • "I understand career decisions impact my life overall. What are some helpful tools and exercises I can use to make informed decisions about the occupation that is a "high match" with me?

What is Career Coaching?

The above questions confirm the need for guided direction during this critical period. The ultimate goal of Career Coaching is to develop internal and external structures to support decisions in career choices and future direction.

Clients use The Career Assessment Profile as a valuable instrument that offers an objective measure of one's innate abilities, personality and interests. Clients learn about their strengths: what they do best and how to apply this information to studies, work, and career plans. In turn, the profile provides the framework needed to set realistic goals and accomplish them.

Additionally, The Personal Career Development Plan can be used to help the client move closer to their desired career goals. Together the client and coach research best options. Exercises are completed that consider preferences; "must-haves", and "must avoids" in areas such as interests, skills, values, people and environment. The end product is a Career Development Plan written by the Client and Coach. Included is a Skills Audit, Career Mission Statement, Career Goals, and Action Plan.

Career Coaching enable the client to better understand what they want out of life and a way to make it happen.
